I can't decide what matters today
"Your to-do list has 23 opinions. None of them are helping."
Do this
Pick three things you can actually finish today. Ten minutes, timer on.
A list with 20 items isn't a plan, it's a place where decisions go to wait. Every item on it is quietly asking your brain "should I be doing you instead?" all day long. Three items can't do that. Three items is short enough to hold in your head, which means you stop re-deciding your day every forty minutes.
The rule that makes this work: they have to be finishable. Not "make progress on the deck." Finished. "Send the deck." If you can't picture the moment it's done, it doesn't count as one of the three.
Here's what it looks like filled in
Today I will finish:
1. Write and send this week's issue
2. Reply to the three emails I've been avoiding
3. Renew the car registration before the late fee hits
Everything else is tomorrow's problem.
